The European Foundation for Support of Culture is organising a tour of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia to mark the 50 th anniversary of the orchestra and the fact that the town of Valletta has been awarded the title of the European Capital of Culture 2018. The concerts will take place at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory on the 5 th of December and the State Academic Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on the 7 th of December.
The Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory is one of the best-known and most prestigious concert halls of the world. The Great Hall hosts concerts of the best soloists and ensembles, as well as international festivals and competitions, including the world-renowned International Tchaikovsky Competition.
The Mariinsky Theatre is one of the leading music theatres of Russia and the world. It opened in 1784 in St. Petersburg, the current cultural capital of Russia. The Theatre complex includes the historic theatre building in Teatralnaya Square, a concert hall (opened in 2006), the second stage in Kryukov Canal Embankment (opened in 2013). Maestro Valery Gergiev has been Artistic and General Director of the theatre since 1988.
The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will perform under the direction of the merited artist of Armenia Sergey Smbatyan. World-renowned musicians will take part in the concert as soloists.
