the Hamburg Conservatoire have held the Classic Winds festival
and competition for wind instrumentalists, and more specifically,
saxophonists and clarinettists.
The opening of the festival in which world-renowned musicians, jury
members and invited world stars of classical music have participated,
took place on May 6 in Hamburg (Germany).
As part of this event, concerts were held in the best music
halls of Hamburg: in the Forum-Grand Hall of the Hamburg
Conservatoire and in the Alfred Schnittke International
Academy.
The panel of judges was made up of Andreas Ottensamer, soloist at
the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra; Arno Bornkamp, professor at the
Conservatoire of Amsterdam; Sergei Smbatyan, director of the Armenian
State Symphony Orchestra; Margarita Shaposhnikova, professor at the
Gnessin Music Academy; Shirly Brill, professor at the Barenboim-Said
Academy (Israel) among others.
The final round of the competition took place during the closing
concert of the festival. Young talented artists assisted by a chamber
orchestra performed works of famous composers, among which there
were in an obligatory performance of a work by a Maltese composer.
The total prize pool was Eur 20,000.
