European programme to support young talented musicians

Calendar30From March 17 to March 25, Valletta, as the European capital of
culture for 2018, will play host to a series of performances by young
talents from the Emīls Dārziņš Music School (Latvia). This activity
is promoted by the European Foundation for Support of Culture under
the “Erasmus +” EU Programme for education, training, youth and sport
for the period 2014-2020 with assistance from the Malta School of Music.
For over 70 years now, the Emīls Dārziņš Music School has been one of the
most prestigious schools of music in Latvia. In 1949, a symphonic orchestra
was organized in the school presently conducted by composer and professor
of music Andris Vekumniks. Soloists for the orchestra are selected from
among the best students of the Music School who, in addition, are winners
of Latvian and international competitions.
The programme of the concert tour will include two concerts for a
symphonic orchestra with soloists and two concerts for a chamber
orchestra. The concerts will take place in the most prestigious concert
halls of Malta; the Mediterranean Conference Centre, the main auditorium
of the Malta School of Music and in other historic concert halls of Valletta.
