A concert is being held daily until the first of May with the participation of international great musicians in classical music during the sixth edition of the Malta International Music Festival, described as the biggest classical music festival ever organised in Malta.
The Music Festival was inaugurated with a performance by Cosmopolitan Trio Vienna with a concert at the Robert Sammut hall in Floriana. They played compositions for violin, piano and cello by composers Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert, and the Romanza by conductor Joe Vella, who died a few weeks ago.
Apart from Vella’s works, other compositions by Maltese composers, including Charles Camilleri and Karl Fiorini will be performed during the festival days. Alexey Shor’s classical work “Images from the Great Siege” will be performed for the first time during the festival. Other Shor’s works will be performed during the international piano competition being held in Malta as part of the festival.
Orchestra concerts will start today at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta with the participation of four soloists from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra – Carmine Lauri, Rebecca Hall, Brit Arend, and Etienne Cutajar in concert with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia.
The Artistic Director of the European Foundation for Culture Support, Alan Chircop, stated that the Malta orchestra will be performing next Wednesday with the ‘Khachaturian’ anniversary concert.
Malta Philharmonic Orchestra chairman, Sigmund Mifsud, said the orchestra is proud it is participating in this festival of classical music in Malta.
The Malta International Music Festival is the highlight of activities organised by the European Foundation for Culture Support as part of the Valletta 2018. The festival is also supported, among others, by the Malta Tourism Authority and the Public Broadcasting Services.
